United 'Hopeful' Of Completing Alderweireld Move

Alderweireld and Rose have always been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the former seeming like a ideal fit for Jose Mourinho's need for a center back as the pursuit of Leicester and England star Harry Maguire seems to have run its course with the Foxes wanting over $100 million for the defender.

The 6ft 5in centre back did go and have a strong World Cup campaign with Colombia, scoring three goals in three games, but his defending remains raw and rough around the edges, with major development needed.

Manchester United believe they have renewed hope of signing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

The negotiations have played out publicly, with United using links with Harry Maguire and more recently Yerry Mina to try and bargain with their Premier League rivals.

Spurs have the option to extend Alderweireld's deal by an extra 12 months but the Belgian centre-half will be available to sign for £25m.

He joined Bayern from Juventus in 2015 and won the Bundesliga title in each of his three seasons in Germany. However, injuries last season limited him to just 22 Bundesliga appearances, pushing Bayern to let him go.

Yet, to move on two players who have formed an integral part of Tottenham's central spine in recent years would be misguided, without players coming in.

Spurs were adamant in asking £75m for the defender, but United weren't keen to shell out as much.

But according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, things have taken a turn for the worse in United's pursuit, and it all comes down to Mina's adviser. Spurs felt this will be the right move to cash in on the former Atletico Madrid man at an optimum price. Today, United are closing in on Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld....

The Old Trafford unit believe that they will get their target inside the next 48 hours.
