Trump meeting with Putin is the right thing for America

Standing alongside Putin at the news conference in Helsinki on Monday, Mr Trump was asked if he believed USA intelligence agencies' conclusions that Russian Federation interfered in the election in an effort to help him defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Reading mainly from a prepared statement, Trump said on Tuesday he had complete faith in USA intelligence agencies and accepted their conclusions.

US President Donald Trump has been forced to backtrack after a media storm following his seeming defence of Russian Federation over claims of meddling in his country's presidential elections in 2016.

"I said "would" instead of 'wouldn't.' " In other words, Trump now was claiming that what he meant to say in Helsinki was, "I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russian Federation". There are a lot of people out there.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) on Monday condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin as an "adversary" following his Helsinki summit with President Donald Trump, saying that the United Sates should continue on a strategic offensive against Russia.

At a press conference with Putin on Monday, Mr. Trump said "I have confidence in both parties" when asked whether he believes the intelligence community's assessment of Russian meddling or Putin's denial.

Albright criticized the way Trump treated US allies last week at a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit and the praise he gave Putin after their meeting in Helsinki.

There was disappointment however when Trump seemed to not only rubbish claims of Putin's interference, but to defend the country's innocence over the findings of his own intelligence agencies. Marco Rubio of Florida.

"On this particular issue, whether or not Russian Federation sought to meddle in the US election successfully or not, most people believe they did", Baker told State House News Service.

Senate Democrats said they wanted the American interpreter at the Helsinki meeting to testify to Congress on what was said during the private Trump-Putin session.

"Congratulations, you're in World War III", Trump said.

Mr Schumer also urged the Senate to take up legislation to boost security for USA elections and to revive a measure passed earlier by the Judiciary Committee to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference. Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell and House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan called Russia's government "menacing" and said they could consider additional sanctions on Russian Federation.

On Tuesday, he corrected that sentence, saying: "The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia.' Sort of a double negative".

Senators had floated a similar idea earlier, and Republican Jeff Flake of Arizona said he was preparing a bipartisan bill.

"For the president of the United States to side with President Putin against American law enforcement, American defence officials, and American intelligence agencies is thoughtless, dangerous, and weak", Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer said.

It wasn't just what Trump said in Helsinki, it was how he acted - like a supplicant to Putin - and that's the most troubling part.

"I think it's important to the country that he stay where he is", Lugar said. When tensions are higher than they've ever been - including the Bay of Pigs - when tensions are higher between the USA and Russian Federation than ever before, I'm not going to stand next to the man and call him a liar to his face because it would undo all of the great progress we had just made.
