Putin-Trump negotiations last two hours

"You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader, certainly that I've ever seen", he said. Mueller's investigation upped the ante on Friday by securing the indictments of 12 Russian intelligence operatives for their alleged efforts to hack into Democratic campaign organizations. He stood next to Putin and attacked domestic political rivals, the Justice Department, and the FBI for investigating what happened while ignoring questions over his own intelligence community's assessment that Putin did, in fact, order a sophisticated influence campaign in states that ultimately decided the election outcome.

Mr Trump told the press conference that the United States and Russian Federation must find ways to "co-operate in pursuit of shared interests".

Even Trump's sometimes-ally Senator Lindsey Graham of SC called the summit a "missed opportunity by President Trump to firmly hold Russian Federation accountable for 2016 meddling and deliver a strong warning regarding future elections".

Trump, speaking in Helsinki after his first summit with Putin, said he saw no reason to believe his own country's intelligence agencies over the Kremlin leader's assurances that Russian Federation did not interfere in the USA election. What sensible person would disagree with Putin's hope that "the Cold War is a thing of the past"? "Just jaw dropping", he wrote on Twitter. But then he went on to say that "these hackers that are being discussed" had hacked into the Democratic National Committee and found "information about manipulations conducted within the Democratic Party to incline the process in favor of one candidate".

"Creating safety for Israel is something both Putin and I would like to see very much", Trump said.

"The President's statements today in Helsinki demonstrate his continued refusal to accept the unanimous conclusions of USA intelligence leaders and the bipartisan findings of the Senate Intelligence Committee", Collin said. Lemire asked Mr Trump.

"The world is not waiting for journalists to ask questions", Rush said.

"I know President Obama said global warming is our biggest problem, and I would say that no, it's nuclear warming is our biggest problem by a factor of about five million", Trump said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his trademark macho posture converged with President Donald Trump and his classic power stance as the leaders met on the world stage in Finland. The drama was playing out against a backdrop of fraying Western alliances, a new peak in the Russian Federation investigation and fears that Moscow's aggression may go unchallenged.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse", Mr Trump tweeted yesterday, blaming "many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"

The veracity of that statement was confirmed by the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation, which retweeted Trump's tweet along with the words: "We agree".

"Presidents Trump and Putin respect each other and they get along well", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. They met on the sidelines of world leader meetings in Germany and Vietnam a year ago.

Trump said he has "low expectations" of the summit and "maybe some good will come of it". He added: "There are quite a few of them for us to pay attention to".

Yet, while Trump's remarks drew criticism in both parties, the reaction was more muted from the Republican side. The two leaders are meeting tete-a-tete behind closed doors, a TASS correspondent reported from the scene.

But White House spokesman Hogan Gidley refused to confirm the meeting had lasted two hours, 10 minutes, according to Politico reporter Annie Karni.

Then came the joint news conference.

Other activist groups are making their message heard across Helsinki as well.
