Donald Trump arrives in London on his maiden visit to UK

Protests are planned across the city and extra security has been put in place to police the demonstrations.

"You see what's going on throughout the world with immigration.I think that's why Brexit happened", he said. Do you know what I mean?

When asked whether he'd like to see the United Kingdom pull further from the United Kingdom and opt for a "hard Brexit", Trump told reporters "It's not for me to say", and stuck to this line when pushed harder for comment.

Referring to the separation of undocumented parents and children, they wrote: "It is with great sadness that we have followed reports of events in recent months which have seen families ripped apart and children placed in cages".

Earlier in a hastily arranged press conference before flying from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels to Britain, Mr Trump told the Prime Minister that she is not delivering the Brexit the people voted for.

His visit comes as the government publishes its plans for the UK's relations with the European Union after Brexit.

In an interview with The Sun, he shoots down the chances of a trade deal with the U.S. if she sticks to her carefully crafted compromise Brexit plan.

"We urge that the Scottish Government rules out any use of Prestwick by the president or his entourage, and so send the most powerful message possible that Donald Trump is not welcome in Scotland".

A number of protests have been planned for the president's stay in the country, with the largest march due to be held in London on Friday.

The Trumps are joining Prime Minister May and other British business leaders at the black-tie dinner at the palace to kick off their visit to Britain. Both of those accords were the result of years of painstaking diplomacy by European leaders - and Trump unilaterally trashed them.

"This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship and begin discussions about how we will forge a strengthened, ambitious and future-proof trade partnership".

Over a lunch of Dover sole, lamb and lemon meringue pie, the leaders will discuss Russian Federation, trade, Brexit and the Middle East.

Protesters gathered outside the entrance to Blenheim Palace ahead of the scheduled dinner.

Only one person, the digital entrepreneur and philanthropist Baroness Martha Lane-Fox, has publicly refused the invitation.

The Trumps arrived at Stansted Airport near London on Air Force One earlier that afternoon for the controversial trip to Britain.

On Friday, Mrs May and Mr Trump will go to watch a joint counter-terrorism exercise by British and United States special forces at a military base.

The two leaders will hold talks the following day at Chequers, the 16-century manor house which is the prime minister's official country residence.

Whilst Trump's trip is not the full state visit he was originally promised, he was heralded by military bands on his arrival in the country and at Blenheim, and on Friday he will have tea with Queen Elizabeth.

However, despite the welcome from May, many Britons remain deeply opposed to Trump's visit.

Anti-Trump demonstrations were expected to take place in Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Cambridge and Cardiff. Organizers have been given permission to float a giant balloon depicting Mr. Trump as a baby and they've already declared victory by noting that the President is largely avoiding London during his visit.
