Sixth boy out of Thai cave, officials vow to ‘speed up’ operation

Divers have rescued four more boys from a vast cave system in northern Thailand on the second day of a challenging mission, as the first four rescued boys recover in hospital.

Remember those soccer boys who spent more than two weeks in a Thai cave after water from heavy rain blocked their exit?

The boys and their coach, whose team is known as the Wild Boars, became stranded when they were exploring the cave after a practice game on June 23.

Narongsak Osottanakorn, head of the rescue operation, said a team of divers went back into the cave Monday morning, local time.

Witnesses say the boys freed Monday were treated at a make-shift hospital at the site, before being taken to a local hospital. Monsoon flooding cut off their escape and prevented rescuers from finding them for nearly 10 days.

In all, 12 boys and their coach had been stuck in the Tham Luang cave network since June 23, when water levels partially flooded the escape routes. Having completed this section, the boys are then handed over to separate, specialist rescue teams, who help assist them through the remainder of the cave, much of which they can wade through.

Four more young footballers and their coach at the Mu Pa (WIld Boar) Academy Mae Sai, Ekkapol Chantawong, are still on the ledge. The names of those rescued have not been released.

"This morning they said they were hungry and wanted to eat khao pad grapao", Narongsak said, referring to a Thai dish of meat fried with chili and basil and served over rice. Billionaire Elon Musk dispatched a team of engineers, and President Donald Trump said Sunday the U.S.is working very closely with Thailand's military government on the rescue. First of all, four of the boys were successfully extracted from the cave system.

Tropical Storm Chris could affect East Coast
The movement of the storm is expected to have some impact on both land and marine areas of Atlantic Canada later this week. Chris is expected to begin moving late Tuesday to the northeast and pick up speed Wednesday and Thursday, the center said.

One dead‚ at least 20 others injured in Pretoria plane crash
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Kabelo Ledwaba said their investigators were on their way to the crash. Aviodrome wrote on Facebook that it was "hugely shocked", by the crash.

"We expect that if there is no unusual condition. the 4 boys, 1 coach, the doctor, and 3 SEALs who have been with the boys since the first day will will come out today", he told a press conference to loud cheering.

Those conditions won't last if the rain resumes, he said. Two divers accompanied each of the boys, all of whom have been learning to dive only since July 2, when searchers found them. On Sunday, he shared photos and video on Twitter showing a "tiny, kid-size submarine" that could potentially help with the rescue effort. Seven boys remain trapped inside with their coach.

The goal is to get them all out before heavy rain forecasted makes it even more hard to reach them.

All those rescued from the Luang Khun Nam Nang Non cave are to be flown or transported by ambulance to the Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital.

The rescue mission has been a huge operation, led by the Royal Thai Navy's SEAL unit, and supported by a cast of hundreds. Two of them possibly have a lung infection but all eight are generally "healthy and smiling", he said.

Somboon Sompiangjai, 38, the father of one of the trapped boys, said parents were told by rescuers ahead of Sunday's operation the "strongest children" would be brought out first.

A hospital spokesperson told media the priority was to make sure the children were safe. I'm happy being here inside, the navy SEALS have taken good care. One was that it was unknown how safe and dry the area where they had taken shelter would stay as Thailand's rainy season, which lasts until at least late October, picks up pace. The most risky part is the first kilometer, during which the divers and boys are required to squeeze through a narrow, flooded channel.
