Giuliani: Trump interview in Russia investigation still possible

Giuliani said Trump won't give an interview unless Mueller's probe into Russian tampering in the 2016 presidential election uncovers something that directly implicates him.

Rudy Giuliani said Sunday that President Donald Trump would only submit to an interview with Robert Mueller if the special counsel could show a "factual basis" for the Russian Federation investigation, which he characterized as corrupt.

Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen has lawyered up, and his new representation, former Clinton attorney Lanny Davis, appears to be preparing to make some big moves against the White House.

Rudy Giuliani, the top lawyer on the legal team, told Fox News on Saturday he is asking Mueller for a "factual basis for the investigation" before it will consider allowing Trump to be interviewed by Mueller's team.

Trump is "close" to deciding a determination, but he's been waiting as more details emerge about "bias" on the part of investigators, Rudy Giuliani said.

"If they can come to us and show us the basis and that it's legitimate and that they have uncovered something, we can go from there and assess their objectivity", Giuliani told the Times.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents raided Cohen's home, office and hotel room in NY in April as part of a probe into his business dealings.

Cohen's hiring of Davis, as well as his comments to ABC last week, increased speculation that Trump's former fixer was inching closer to cooperating with federal prosecutors rather than face serious charges stemming from his businesses and payments made to women, including Daniels, in order to secure their silence over alleged affairs. "I put family and country first". "The reality is there is no evidence of wrongdoing by the president, no evidence of collusion".

Davis was referring to Giuliani's appearance on ABC. "If he believes it's in his best interests to cooperate, God bless him".

"I was probably there that day", he said a bit cryptically, adding, "I don't remember it".

"Most people will flip if the Government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories", Trump tweeted.

"I don't like the term 'witch hunt, '" Cohen was quoted as saying.

Giuliani revealed to CNN's State of the Union that the White House legal team has debriefed all the witnesses to the Mueller investigation, and reviewed 1.4m pages of documents handed over to the special counsel.

The former NY mayor said on NBC that it's "great" if Cohen wants to cooperate with investigators because "we've been through all the records" and "he has no evidence of, nor was he involved in, anything untoward with the president". Giuliani told NBC's Meet The Press.
