Police could take months to investigate Novichok probe, they warn

"This individual was not poisoned by a nerve agent", a Salisbury District Hospital spokesperson said, adding that the person had already left the facility.

British police said Wednesday that a couple got critically ill, poisoned by the same Soviet-designed agent that almost killed former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March. Sturgess collapsed first, Rowley hours later.

"The 45-year-old man who fell ill with Dawn remains critically ill in hospital and our thoughts are with him and his family as well".

Reportedly, Wiltshire Police reported on new cases of poisoning similar to the poisoning of ex-officer of the GRU of Russia Sergey Skripal and his daughter Julia in Salisbury on March 4.

He said it was "completely unacceptable for our people to be either deliberate or accidental targets", and warned about towns in the United Kingdom becoming "dumping grounds" for nerve agents.

Alastair Hay, Professor Emeritus of Environmental Toxicology at the University of Leeds, said there is "no specific method for the detection of Novichok in the environment" because the use of the nerve agent was not considered likely when monitors were designed.

Officials said the highest concentration of Novichok was found on the couple's hands, leading them to suspect they encountered the poison from handling some contaminated item. "This, of course, fully dissonates with what the British authorities and the British media are saying about Russian Federation".

The Skripals spent weeks in critical condition after being attacked in the southwest England city of Salisbury in March.

It is not believed that the couple in the latest poisoning incident had visited the sites connected to the Skripals in Salisbury, he said.

The depression was forecast to become a tropical storm on Saturday, with gradual strengthening expected through Monday. The system will move northwestward and stall, or meander, near the coast of North Carolina over the weekend.

They remain in hospital following their exposure to the deadly substance.

Sam Hobson, a friend of the couple, said he had visited Salisbury with them the day before they fell ill.

Britain accused Russian Federation of poisoning Skripal with Novichok nerve agent, the first known offensive use of such a chemical weapon on European soil since World War Two.

In Amesbury, they include Mr Rowley's home in Muggleton Road, a branch of Boots and the Baptist Centre.

It is not known whether the Novichok, in this case, is from the same incident as March, but police are treating that as a possibility.

On a positive note, hospital officials say no unit is better qualified to treat these victims, after all, their teams have been through this before.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid is chairing a meeting of the British government's COBRA emergency committee on Thursday morning.

A government scientist told the BBC yesterday that the agent can be degraded by water and sunlight, meaning it was unlikely the contamination took place in the open, and said that it was so toxic that it could pass through the skin.
