Facebook bug quietly unblocked more than 800,000 blocked users

Blocking someone on Facebook automatically unfriends them and prevents them from such actions as adding you as friend, sending you a message on Messenger, and seeing posts on your profile. And starting today, the company is notifying affected users.

Egan said that the issue has now been fixed and all of the block settings have been restored. Facebook says the bug didn't allow unblocked users to view all of your content - instead, they could have viewed some posts through a wider audience, such as the friends of your friends, etc. Facebook claims the bug isn't wide-spread, despite affecting 800 thousand users, stating that the 83% of the people affected only had one person temporarily unblocked. They would also have been able to send messages to the user, something a blocked person usually cannot do. Which is nevertheless cold comfort to the company's vast audience that sees in this yet another bug that could chip away at trust in the company, following a similar one a few weeks ago.

"We know that the ability to block someone is important - and we'd like to apologise and explain what happened". Egan stated that the bug did not reinstate friend connections that had been severed and that those who should be blocked have been blocked once again. For example, their relationship may have changed or they may want to take a break from someone posting content they find annoying.

USA crude hits $75 as oil supply risks mount
Trump threatened in an interview that aired on Sunday to put sanctions on European companies that do business with Iran. Iran supplied 18.4 million tonnes of crude oil during April 2017 and January 2018 (first 10 months of 2017-18 fiscal).

People are blocked for harsher reasons, such as harassment or bullying, Egan added.

Apparently, the bug did not cause unblocked users to become friend with the users who had blocked them even if they were friends before getting blocked.

Facebook has acknowledged a new bug that improperly tinkered with user settings - this time, a bug that affected more than 800,000 users and unblocked users that they'd blocked.
