The Queen and Duchess Meghan make 1st joint appearance

New royal Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, joined the Queen for an overnight trip to Cheshire in England for her first official appearance without her husband. It was followed by events including the unveiling of a plaque to officially open the Mersey Gateway Bridge.

"Don't forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen's hat as she went past".

Meghan Markle had made her first joint public engagement with the Queen, after spending a night on Her Majesty's royal train.

Meghan, whose elegant pure white wedding dress was designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, wore a neutral fitted belted pencil dress, featuring an unusual cape shoulder detail. The duchess was also wearing diamond-and-pearl earrings that were a gift from the Queen.

Meghan, now the Duchess of Sussex, arrived at Runcorn railway station with Queen Elizabeth in the northern county of Cheshire on Wednesday morning.

It is not known if they were from her personal collection or a new purchase.
