Thomas Lemar: Atletico Madrid reach 'preliminary agreement' to sign Monaco winger

Maybe Thomas Lemar's proposed move bodes well for Antoine Griezmann's future at Atletico Madrid.

Lemar is now away on worldwide duty with France and both clubs will be keen to finalise the transfer before the start of the World Cup, which gets underway on Thursday.

Both clubs announced a "preliminary agreement" on a transfer, with Atletico saying the clubs will work together to complete the details.

Having previously stated that he would announce his decision before France's opening World Cup game on Saturday, Griezmann chose to keep quiet.

While Manchester United have been linked with Griezmann previously, Deschamps said the forward was staying in Spain.

And thanks to Griezmann's breaking his plan to declare his club future before the World Cup, we seemingly won't have clarity until at least July 1.

Griezmann is part of the France squad for this summer's World Cup squad and will be a key part of the team going into the tournament, in which they are one of the favourites.

Speculation has been intense in the Spanish media that the Atletico Madrid star will make a big money move to Barcelona, with Lionel Messi even expressing his approval a few days ago.

"However, today is not the time, nor the place, to say what it is".

While Liverpool and Arsenal have been interested in signing him again this summer, with Chelsea also said to be keen, none of the Premier League clubs have made a concrete offer.

Some heartwarming footage has emerged of a young Antoine Griezmann meeting his France heroes back in 1998.
