Wait, Skyrim: Very Special Edition For Amazon's Alexa is Kinda Real?

And yet here we are, a few hours later, and you can actually play Skyrim: Very Special Edition. But Bethesda have followed through on the joke, releasing a voice-activated edition of the game that's free to enable on Amazon. Adding to the satirical theme, the video also featured Skyrim "ports" to an Etch-a-Sketch, pager, and a smart fridge, so it was understandable that people didn't think "Skyrim: Very Special Edition" was happening.

Skyrim has come to the Amazon Alexa, in the form of Skyrim Very Special Edition - this is not a joke, even though Bethesda treated it like one in its press conference. Featuring comedian, actor (and CNET magazine cover star!) Keegan-Michael Key, the ad runs through the obvious jokes about performing dragon shouts via voice command, vocalized combat with crabs and eating the endless cheese a player has stocked up on.

Say "Alexa, open Skyrim" and you're off on your adventures. The way you respond will determine where you go next, enemies you encounter and gear you find. Skills like Magicka level up as you use their associated abilities, but the game doesn't make a distinction between the different forms of magic like Destruction, Restoration, or adjustment.

It's not clear if this is really the full game, but it's still pretty remarkable that Bethesda did it. It's probably still years off at this point, but while we wait for more information, at least there's a new version of Skyrim to check out, right?
