Woman charged after allegedly putting children in pet kennels

The video was filmed by a concerned citizen who was passing by.

Authorities responded to a call about a woman transporting children in dog kennels and, while investigating at a house in Whitehaven, Cheeks drove up to the home, according to an affidavit of complaint. Moments later, a girl straightens her bent knees to emerge from the pet enclosure.

Leimome Cheeks, 62, has been charged with two counts of child endangerment after the children, aged seven and eight, were released.

According to Memphis police, Leimome Cheeks, 62, said there was no room inside her vehicle, so she told the seven and eight-year-olds to get inside the kennels.

However, a local news source WREG reported that neighbours know Cheeks to be a wonderful woman and was unlikely to let the children go through that situation.

Police noted that it was 95 degrees that day in Memphis and that there were no air vents in the back of the Ford Explorer.
