North Korea's Kim to tour Singapore sites on eve of summit

Trump went from one global leadership summit to another this weekend, leaving the G-7 conference in Canada to fly to Singapore.

Singapore's foreign minster Vivian Balakrishnan tweeted a selfie of himself with Mr Kim during the surprise walkabout.

Kim toured Singapore's nightlife on Monday evening. "This says something about Singapore's relations with America and North Korea, and also our standing in the worldwide community".

Mr Pompeo said the summit was "an unprecedented opportunity to change the trajectory of our relationship and bring peace and prosperity" to North Korea.

At the Capella hotel on Singapore's Sentosa island, a popular resort destination, Trump and Kim will first meet at 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET Monday) for a handshake and photo op. However, others reported that the Air China Boeing 747 took off before the leader's jet did by an hour or two as a security measure to avoid making his mode of transportation known.

The summit - the first between a sitting U.S. president and any North Korean Leader - will mark a turnaround of relations between Trump and Kim after a long-running exchange of furious threats and insults.

In return, Kim, said to be in his mid-thirties, called Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard".

On Tuesday, June 12, the first-ever meeting of sitting leaders of the United States and North Korea will take place in Singapore. The North Korean autocrat's every move will be followed by 3,000 journalists up until he shakes hands with Trump. Trump and Kim Jong-Un have both suggested they could also pursue a peace treaty to officially end the Korean War, which ceased because of an armistice signed in 1953.

When asked upon landing in Singapore how he was feeling about the encounter, Trump gave a brief answer: "Very good". On the US side, Trump was to be joined by Pompeo, chief of staff John Kelly, national security adviser John Bolton and US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, along with a few others.

"I feel that Kim Jong-Un wants to do something great for his people".

Exuding confidence, Trump said he has done relatively little formal preparation.

While en route to Singapore, Trump said he looked forward to meeting Kim on what he anticipated would be an exciting day. And the maximum, I think you know the answer to that. "I look forward to meeting him and have a feeling that this one-time opportunity will not be wasted".

At a press conference earlier on Sunday, Loong said that the summit cost approximately $20 million, which is a price the Singapore was "willing to pay".
