Nadal loses first French Open set for three years

Top seed Rafael Nadal will resume his fight to stay in the French Open on Thursday after his quarter-final against Argentina's Diego Schwartzman was held up by rain.

He trailed 5-3 in the second set with Nadal a break up and serving for set leading 30-15 before the rains came for the second time on Wednesday that forced play to be abandoned for the day.

Eleventh seed Schwartzman snapped Nadal's run of winning 37 consecutive completed sets at Roland Garros when he took the opener 6-4 on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Nadal, who turns 32 on Sunday, continued his bid for an 11th French Open title and 17th major by brushing aside Gasquet.

He had lost the first set and was a break down in the second before returning from a one-hour interruption to turn the tables on Schwartzman and gain the upper hand.

The Spanish No. 1 required treatment at the change of ends for a right wrist problems and at the start of the second, Schwartzman struck again.

Iran informs IAEA of start of process to boost uranium enrichment
The deal allows Iran to continue 3.67 percent uranium enrichment, far below the roughly 90 percent threshold of weapons-grade. The agreement saw these countries ditching hefty sanctions against Iran, which would in turn not develop nuclear weapons.

An earlier rain interruption appeared to do Nadal some good.

The 25-year-old Schwartzman switched gears in the tie-break of a tight fourth set to level the contest at two sets apiece as a tiring Anderson failed to score a point.

In the other men's quarter-final, Juan Martin del Potro and Marin Cilic were locked at 5-5 in a first-set tiebreaker.

The gritty Argentine went toe-to-toe with the world No. 1, breaking him three times and booking two set points. Schwartzman saved a break point in the last game and he looked pumped and motivated to earn his career-best win, breaking twice in a row in set number two as well.

Sharapova, playing at Roland Garros for the first time since 2015, suffered her most one-sided defeat at the Slams since a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Victoria Azarenka in the 2012 Australian Open final.
