Trump Confirms June 12 Meeting With Kim In Singapore

Mr Trump's announcement comes after top North Korean official Kim Yong Chol visited the White House today to deliver the letter.

The announcement capped an electric day of diplomacy at the White House, which included the highest-level meeting between a USA president and a North Korean official since 2000.

The last such meeting came in late 2000, when lame duck President Bill Clinton hosted an envoy who brought a letter from then-North Korea leader Kim Jong Il, the current leader's father. The meeting will be a good start and small step to achieving world peace.

Trump said he expected an eventual "very positive result" with North Korea but dampened expectations for a breakthrough in Singapore. The Trump administration has often said it can't afford to repeat those mistakes because of the threat that North Korean nuclear-tipped missiles now pose to the continental U.S.

But on Friday, after meeting with North Korea's Kim Yong-chol, he announced the Sinapore-based talks were back on.

"I think it'll be a process".

"This does not mean that everything will be done in one meeting".

Rather than surrender its program all at once as Gadhafi did, North Korea has repeatedly said it envisions a "progressive and synchronous" approach, where it gets benefits along the way.

Meanwhile, North and South Korean officials are working to increase communication between the two countries and improve their relations. "I haven't opened it", he said.

Trump said countries in the region - Japan and South Korea - were also involved in this. "We're getting along. You see the relationship". Everybody wants the United States.

"Between now and if we're going to have a summit, they're going to have to make clear what they're willing to do".

He says: "In light of how North Korea has behaved in the past, I believe that it is important not to reward North Korea exclusively for agreeing to have a dialogue".

Inconsistent England Hang on vs
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, making only his third global appearance, hardly had a save to make in the first half. Sterling laid on the second goal for captain Harry Kane after Cahill had headed England in front inside seven minutes.

U.S. officials learned of the letter's substance through diplomatic channels in the absence of reading the letter itself, the person said.

"At the rate the two political leaders are going, we can only say that the summit is confirmed when they actually arrive in Singapore".

"It will be a beginning". But he says he won't impose them "until the talks break down". You're talking years of hostility, problems and hatred between so many different nations.

Kim's to letter to Moon was personally delivered by Kim's sister, who attended the Olympics as a special envoy, and was covered by a blue folder emblazoned with a golden seal.

Here's what you need to know about the latest development in this diplomatic rollercoaster. We think it's important.

He added: "The process will begin on June 12 in Singapore".

Experts worry that North Korean foot-dragging, encouraged by a China and Russian Federation that have warned against precipitating the process, could prove intolerable to the Trump administration. Trump told reporters it was a "very nice letter. a very interesting letter".

Trump downplayed the notion that a deal with North Korea would be reached quickly.

Washington and Pyongyang are trying to salvage the summit, which was on the verge of collapse last Thursday when Trump walked away, citing "open hostility" from the North.

The president has not denied speaking to the North Korean leader, and tantalized reporters with suggestions that he has done so. He'd like to see it happen.

When they emerged, Trump shook Kim's hand before seeing him off in a black U.S. government SUV. But the sanctions are very powerful.

The U.S.is looking for verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, while North Korea wants economic sanctions lifted, CBS2's Dick Brennan reported. "It's going to remain what it is now". There was never an official "back on" message, but Trump tweeted Tuesday that his letter got a "solid response".
