Trump tells Naval Academy graduates 'they are respecting us again'

President Trump on Friday gave a triumphant, patriotic speech to 2018 graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy, promising to stand up for the U.S. without apology and hailing what he said was the re-emergence of American confidence since he took office.

"We know that the best way to prevent war is to be fully prepared for war and hopefully we never have to use all of this handsome new powerful new equipment", Trump said.

Leaving the White House en route to the Naval Academy, the president said the U.S.is talking to North Korea about trying to revive a nuclear summit next month. We have become a lot stronger lately.

Trump praised the American victories in the 20th century, including winning two world wars, putting a man on the moon, curing diseases, and developing massive infrastructure.

The New York Times pointed out that Trump provided alternative facts at least three times, including taking credit for ending the defense sequester, vowing to provide the Navy with "a couple hundred" more ships and falsely claiming the U.S. Navy had not had a pay raise in 10 years.

"We have rediscovered our dignity, regained our stride and we are proud again", he said.

Speaking to roughly 1,000 graduates at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., Trump said his efforts have boosted the nation's prestige in the eyes of the world.

"What should I do?" he asked the crowd.

"I'll stay, I'll stay", the president said, responding to the applause from the audience.
