Trump provides updates on first lady Melania Trump after medical procedure

The first lady underwent the procedure on Monday, and her office said she would likely remain in the hospital for the rest of the week. President Donald Trump took a helicopter to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to visit her and tweeted that his wife was in "good spirits". "The first lady looks forward to a full recovery".

Trump visited Melania at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, state of Maryland, on Monday evening.

The statement vaguely described the procedure as "an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition" but offered no additional details about the first lady's condition or treatment. Doctors do that with an embolisation - snaking a catheter into the blood vessels of the kidney to find the right one and block it.

Such tumors are usually found by accident, when doctors are taking images for another reason, he said. She will leave the hospital in 2 or 3 days.

He later reiterated to reporters on his way into Senate policy lunches with Republican members that Melania was doing "really well" and had a "really successful" procedure.

Trump is the first U.S. First Lady to undergo a serious medical procedure while in the White House since Nancy Reagan underwent a mastectomy in 1987, CNN reported. "So thank you and she sends her love", the president told the crowd.

President Donald Trump says his wife, Melania, will be released from the hospital in a few days after receiving treatment for a kidney condition the White House says is noncancerous. They have a 12-year-old son, Barron. She and Barron moved to the White House last June.
