What You Need to Know About the Massive Egg Recall

Thirty-five people have now been diagnosed with salmonella linked to the contaminated food after more than 200 million eggs were recalled by an egg farm in North Carolina. In 1990, 450 cases across the USA were linked to three Rose Acre farm sites. The eggs were circulated having brand names such as Nelms, Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Great Value, Food Lion, Glenview, Sunups and Publix.

Affected states include; Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The CDC says tainted eggs have added a dozen new cases to a monthlong nationwide salmonella outbreak. FDA analysis of the samples revealed that the same rare strain of Salmonella Braenderup that caused the illnesses was present at the Hyde County Egg facility, tying the facility to the outbreak. They've been sold in NY and eight other states.

It is not usually life-threatening, except in children and the elderly who have weaker immune systems.

Anyone who has a recalled carton is being urged to throw the eggs away or return them to the store they were bought in. That's because healthy people who are infected with salmonella can still have some pretty bad symptoms, including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Almost 50 people have been sickened by the contaminated eggs.

More than 1 million illnesses were reported. They also noted employees touching dirty floors, equipment and their bodies without washing their hands. However, there has been no death cases reported.
