UFC 224 official weigh-in - Raquel Pennington vs. Amanda Nunes

Amanda Nunes' UFC women's bantamweight championship reign has consisted entirely of upset victories, as she's come into each of her three title fights as an underdog.

Saturday didn't provide almost the suspense as Nunes continually battered Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 for her seventh straight win and third since taking the belt from Miesha Tate in 2016.

After being taken down in the second, Nunes returned the favor in the third as she slammed Pennington down to the mat. She paid for the failed takedown attempts, too, as Nunes made a habit of digging knees into the body and head after Pennington bailed on single leg shots. Nunes adjusted in the third round and from there it was pretty much domination.

She got Pennington to the ground and cracked her across the face with an elbow.

But Pennington didn't have anything left in the tank, and Nunes went in for the finish, pinning Pennington on her back around the 3:00 mark. The time of the stoppage was 2:36 of the fifth round. Gastelum poured on the strikes in the second round and got a knockdown on a stiff left hand.

"I live in the US, but I'm from Brazil and I represent Brazil with the flag and my belt", Nunes told the crowd after her sixth straight win.

Pennington finally rolled over with Nunes just pouring on the punishment as the canvas was painted red with blood until the referee saw enough to step into stop the carnage. ThisUFC 224 main event may seem like out-of-the-blue booking to some fans - and with a lack of strong competition there may not have been a choice - but those who have followed Pennington's career knows that she is tough as nails.
