Arsene Wenger: I have missed visiting India

In what was the Frenchman's last ever press conference as Arsenal manager, Wenger looked to the future, speculating on the subject the idea of a continental "super league" - an idea he called "the next step" for top level football. Speaking in an interview uploaded on the official Facebook page of Arsenal Football Club, the French manager said that he regrets never visiting the country in his life.

Even he, though, will admit that things just haven't been the same since the move.

"When I was a kid I learnt about (Mahatma) Gandhi, being a kind of a special resistance, a non-violent hesitance and I was certainly impressed by that". It's a cathedral, a church. "So it was special".

I don't remember what I thought when Wenger was appointed manager of Arsenal in 1996.

"The Emirates for me was like buying a new house". "I feel at home".

"I think it was down to the fact that the football world has changed and that you build a stadium".

Arsenal have been linked with a host of names - Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri, Carlo Ancelotti, Liverpool assistant Zeljko Buvac, Luis Enrique, Joachim Low, Patrick Vieira, Mikel Arteta, Thierry Henry, Leonardo Jardim and Julian Nagelsmann among the reported candidates to succeed Wenger in 2018-19.

"We had to do it".

"We had to do it", Wenger said."There is no club that can turn people who wanted to attend the game down".

"After I finish here I can reconnect a bit and be a bit more who I really am".

These days the club aren't weighed down by the debt anymore, but they still find themselves struggling to compete financially with clubs like Manchester City.

With the club's performance in the Premier League becoming increasingly disappointing, this season marked the first time in 20 years that they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

"Then we had a double handicap. The impact of the transfers has increased a lot", Wenger replied when asked if Spurs now face the same issues Arsenal did 12 years ago. The prices have gone up.

The scale of the changes he's made are virtually immeasurable; culture, style, stadium and structure are all hugely different from what was the case when he arrived.

"You will have a European League played at weekends because the Champions League doesn't sell well any more". So they might get more supply.
