CDC apologizes for 'gross' muffin post about ticks

On Friday, the agency reminded its followers just how small those the pests can be, tweeting two photos of a poppy seed muffin.

But the CDC's tick-laden muffin presented an entirely distinct problem for Twitter users, left to forever associate the delicious dots on poppyseed muffins with disease-ridden ticks. The caption, however, suggested that something wasn't quite right.

"Ticks can be the size of a poppy seed".

"Can you spot all five ticks in this photo?"

Eventually, the CDC official issued a tweet proclaiming - " Sorry we ticked some of you off!

However, this is not just any muffin. If you determine that you've been bitten by one, you'll want to put it in a plastic bag and show it to your doctor, who may prescribe you an antibiotic.

A number of the Manchester United players do not have the mental fortitude to represent the club, according to José Mourinho.

What may have seemed like a clever tweet to warn people about ticks, quickly backfired.

Use tweezers to grab the tick up close to skin.

Other people felt like the CDC's message wasn't very clear.

Symptoms may include fever, headache, joint pain, muscle aches, fatigue or a rash soon after a tick bite.

If ruining poppy seed muffins is what it takes to raise awareness of the dangers of tick bites, then perhaps this controversial tweet accomplished the CDC's goal after all.
