Heartbreaking video shows the moment a military plane crashed in Savannah

All nine people on board an aging U.S. cargo plane have been killed when the aircraft making its final military flight nose-dived into a highway in the USA state of Georgia, an official said.

Puerto Rico National Guard officials say the plane was on the way to Arizona for a routine mission.

Master Sgt. Roger Parsons, a spokesman for the Air Force, initially would not speculate on cause of the crash and said it was too soon to provide definitive numbers.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Gena Bilbo said "it is an absolute miracle" that no vehicles on the road were involved in the crash. He said two other C-130 planes will not be flying because they require maintenance.

"There were definitely cars going both ways", he said "...

The authorities cut electric power to the area of the crash, suspended service on a rail line that runs next to Highway 21, and warned that a stretch of the roadway could remain closed for weeks.

The C-130 cargo plane crashed around 11:30 a.m. near the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
