The event runs from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m.

Citizens can bring their pills for disposal to the Swampscott Police Station, located at 531 Humphrey St.

Officers and firefighters from the Williamsburg Police and Fire Departments will join the Williamsburg-James City County Sheriff's Department in collecting old prescription and over-the-counter medication from city residents who no longer need them on Saturday, April 28.

"Prescription drug misuse continues to be a serious concern", said Attorney General Russell Suzuki.

"The Take-Back Initiative is convenient and free; it provides a safe and appropriate way for the public to dispose of unused medication", said NED administrator Jared Redulla. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the country are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to those drugs.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows year after year that the majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including someone else's medication being stolen from the home medicine cabinet.
