United States wants Arab force to replace its troops in Syria, WSJ

Officials are said to have spoken to Egypt, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia about it.

In April, the U.S. reportedly began drafting plans to increase its military presence in Syria. "Will President Trump succeed in rallying the Arab world around the cause of countering the Iranian regime's malignant expansion in Syria?"

USA officials told the Wall Street Journal that the Arab personnel will help stabilize the northeastern parts of Syria once Islamic State militants are defeated.

A spokesman for the National Security Council declined to comment about Bolton's call to Kamel, who is widely regarded as one of the most powerful figures in the Egyptian regime, said the WSJ, before confirming that other U.S. officials acknowledged the call.

The paper said that "John Bolton, President Donald Trump's new national security adviser, recently called Abbas Kamel, Egypt's acting intelligence chief, to see if Cairo would contribute to the effort". Officials have also approached Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates with requests for billions of dollars to help restore northern Syria.

All BJP ministers resign from Mehbooba's Government for cabinet 'reshuffle'
The BJP leaders said the party wants to introduce new faces and work for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Ganga and Singh submitted their resignations to state unit chief Sat Sharma after major hue and cry.

A spokesman for the National Security Council declined to comment on reports of the call, according to the report.

He said Riyadh had expressed its readiness while Barack Obama was US President to send ground forces into Syria if the United States were to add an on-the-ground component to the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State insurgents. The new initiative is expected to establish a new force at the absence of US troops that will counter the growing influence of Russian Federation and Iran, the main supporters of the Bashar Assad regime in Syria.

President Trump has previously criticized the amount U.S. allies were prepared to spend on regional security efforts.

President Trump hinted at global efforts in Syria in his Friday announcement, saying: "We have asked our partners to take greater responsibility for securing their home region, including contributing larger amounts of money".

According to the WSJ, Trump has grown frustrated at what he perceives as a costly and time-consuming intervention in Syria, a position at odds with most of his advisors who argue that an early exit from the Syrian front would cede ground to Russian Federation and Iran, while possibly opening up the door for the Islamic State (IS) to resurface.
