Stuart Olding not on our radar: Exeter Chiefs dismiss link to player

Ulster Rugby's CEO says he can not see Paddy Jackson or Stuart Olding returning to play with the province or country in the future.

Ahead of Ulster's final home game of the season against Glasgow this weekend, Rob Herring read a statement on behalf of the Ulster squad expressing sadness at Jackson and Olding's departure.

On Monday, French club Clermont denied that they were keen on signing Jackson on a deal to bring him to the south of France.

Both players were acquitted of all charges, but it was decided they were to be let go due to their behaviour regardless.

Before Ulster's Pro14 meeting with the Ospreys last Friday a number of fans protested, calling for action to be taken against the duo, and O'Driscoll believes the situation may have escalated had the IRFU taken an alternative stance.

"In arriving at this decision, the Irish Rugby Football Union and Ulster Rugby acknowledge our responsibility and commitment to the core values of the game: Respect, Inclusivity and Integrity".

The review focused on a series of explicit group text conversations involving the players and their friends, which was revealed during the trial.

It comes as the Ulster Rugby CEO Shane Logan said the province and the IRFU did not envisage the players playing for club or country again.

Former Ireland captain O'Driscoll said this morning that the IRFU were "left with no option but to sever ties with Stuart and Paddy".

Last week, one of Ulster Rugby's major sponsors, Bank of Ireland, said it had contacted the club with concerns over "serious behaviour and conduct issues" arising from the rape trial.

Move on, we are a Supporters' Club and we support the club not individual players.

Jackson and Olding were unanimously acquitted of raping the same woman in June 2016, while Jackson was also found not guilty of sexual assault.

"I think we were all shocked because I don't think what subsequently emerged was in line with what we knew of them or indeed how we expect any of us to behave".

'The players themselves admitted in their own statements that they were way short of what was expected of them'.
