Damascus skies erupt with service to air missile fire as the USA launches an attack on Syria.

The US has warned it "is locked and loaded" to strike Syria if any more chemical attacks occur.

"The coalition strike in Syria is a measured response to Assad's barbaric use of chemical weapons".

The director-general of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons told a meeting of the OPCW executive council that inspectors had not been allowed to visit the town outside Damascus, the United Kingdom delegation tweeted.

In a conference call with reporters on Saturday, senior USA administration officials said they had a large volume of clear and compelling information, both of chemical weapons use and of President Bashar al-Assad's culpability in the attack.

Syria and Russian Federation have also denied that any chemical attack took place, and so far there has been no independent confirmation of civilian casualties. "No other group could have carried this out", May said. "They went out to destroy critical chemical weapons infrastructure in Syria, and they did exactly that".

"No Syrian weapon had any effect on what we did", said McKenzie. The team arrived in Syria shortly before the airstrikes and met with Syrian officials.

Putin also denied that the Assad regime used chemical weapons in Douma, saying that Russian military experts had tested the area and found nothing.

"I can guarantee that Russian Federation has not tampered with the site", Mr Lavrov told the BBC in an interview. However, the foreign minister also said the Kremlin would be instrumental in securing a political settlement.

The inspectors were due to attempt to visit the site of the suspected gas attack in Douma on April 7, which medical relief organisations say killed dozens of people.

OPCW stands for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
