Trump's Lawyer May Have Stored 'Gold Mine' Of Recorded Conversations

Donald Trump has reportedly been doing nothing but eating and watching television in recent days, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on his longtime lawyer apparently leaving the president in an angry stupor.

Sanders declined to comment on whether the president will fire his deputy attorney general or special counsel Robert Mueller amid mounting frustrations with both. And seizures of potentially attorney-client privileged documents raise a host of additional after-the-fact legal considerations, including how to segregate legitimately confidential communications from those unrelated to Cohen's legal advice.

Whether Cohen was recording conversations in his Trump Tower office was a source of concern to some Trump associates during the campaign, two former Trump campaign officials said. Cohen said he paid Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her silence about her claim to have had a one-night-stand with Trump.

But they provided new details on the investigation, which they said has been going on for months.

In other words, the Federal Bureau of Investigation wouldn't have executed the search warrant at Trump's lawyer's office unless they had good reason and probable cause of criminality, said former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti.

Attorneys for Trump lawyer Michael Cohen want the court to order prosecutors to temporarily halt an examination of the material that was seized.

In the filing with a court in NY, prosecutors blacked out a section describing what crime they believe Trump attorney Michael Cohen has committed.

Southern District of New York District Judge Kimba M. Wood is expected to preside at the hearing, according to the court.

They said agents had already searched multiple email accounts maintained by Cohen.

Monday's raids infuriated Trump, who tweeted "Attorney-client privilege is dead!" on Tuesday.

Cohen has said neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was involved in the transaction with Daniels and he was not reimbursed for the payment.

President Donald Trump's personal attorney is trying to prevent the government from using materials it found in a search of his office and residence this week.

And it's likely that Cohen's reported activities - involving payoffs to women, a Russia-favouring "peace plan" for Russian Federation and Ukraine, and a business deal sought for a Trump Tower in Moscow - were of interest to federal authorities.

Federal agents raided Cohen's Manhattan office and residence on Monday, seizing records on topics, including a $130,000 payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

While Trump railed against the raids as "an attack on our country", Cohen offered a disputing account, telling CNN on Tuesday that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were "professional, courteous [and] respectful".

A court spokesman reached by the AP did not elaborate further on the subject matter of the court proceeding.

Trump could face legal trouble if Cohen's payment to Daniels, which was funneled through an LLC, is determined to have been an in-kind contribution - an offering not of cash to pay for goods or services but of the goods or services themselves - to his 2016 presidential campaign.
