Stories Facebook to be a new feature

"Facebook tells me technology understands the corners and objects in the room to create a 3D spec. Facebook could use that to detect surfaces like walls and tables to wrap the drawing onto them".

The news comes after Instagram's parent company Facebook's Cambridge Analytica data scandal due to which Instagram earlier cut off the Application program interface (API) access for some developers and limited on how often others can use its API to collect data on Instagram users. The doodles will then stick to the objects captured in the frame, and users can move around to see their artwork from different angles - a bit like virtual graffiti. This also means that flash photography is not supported by the new feature, on account of it harshly affecting the lighting captured in the image. Starting with the new 3D drawings and Instagram's Boomerang, the social media platform hopes to compete with Snapchat.

Previously, the company revealed its AR effects back at F8 past year. People can soon draw scribbles before or during recording and then move the camera around to see the markings stay in place.

AS data protection and privacy become a big issue around the world, social networking companies like Instagram need to appropriately take care of the information we share.

The stories archived by the users and messages exchange will they be allowed to be downloaded or not, is yet to be disclosed. As Facebook ramps up competition with the likes of Snapchat and Instagram, we can likely expect greater integration with AR in future updates.
