UK's May summons ministers for Syria meeting

May had avoided apportioning blame for the alleged attack in the rebel-held city of Douma on Saturday, but on Wednesday said: "All the indications are that the Syrian regime was responsible".

But the Cabinet's call for "action" to prevent further use of chemical weapons included no details on the method or timing of such strikes, while leaving open the possibility of other responses.

There is no guarantee lawmakers would rubber-stamp a decision for military strikes.

Sky News reported that May was expected to ask her ministers on Thursday to approve Britain's involvement in military action against Syria's chemical weapons infrastructure.

"Cabinet agreed on the need to take action to alleviate humanitarian distress and to deter the further use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime", May's office said in a statement.

Ministers will consider the options for backing military action threatened by the United States and its allies.

The bench said through the verdict, some filters have been put in place, which are not against the basic tenet of law. According to media reports, the Centre has also said that the apex court's verdict has damaged the country's harmony.

The BBC said May was ready to give the go-ahead for Britain to take part in action led by the US without seeking prior approval from parliament, and the Financial Times said the cabinet had agreed to this.

Corbyn has said any action in Syria should be put to a parliamentary vote.

YouGov adds: "Across all parties voters are more likely to oppose than support missile strikes, although Conservative voters are the most evenly split with 34 per cent in opposition and 33 per cent in support". May isn't legally required to do that, though it has become conventional since the 2003 invasion of Iraq for lawmakers to be given the chance to vote before British forces are deployed.

As per media reports, on April 10 US President Donald Trump had called for a meeting to deliberate on the state's administration response towards the alleged chemical weapons attack carried out by Assad's government against its own people.

In 2015 lawmakers approved United Kingdom strikes on Islamic State group targets in Syria, but not on government forces.

However, some of her MPs have expressed caution about getting involved in the complex conflict in Syria and are pressing for parliament to be recalled from its Easter break to discuss any action.
