Addressing a gathering on the occasion Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the memorial signifies the importance this govt attaches to Dr Ambedkar. The followers of Baba Saheb believe 26, Alipur Road as Holy place where he attained Mahaparinirvana. "The memorial of Babasaheb Ambedkar, the creator of the Constitution of India has been given the shape of a book", it said.

The memorial also includes a museum, which aims to recreate a detailed experience of Ambedkar's life, and his contributions to the country. The building also has a meditation hall with a Marble statue of Mahatma Buddha. Toran Dwars, a Bodhi Tree, a musical fountain, and facade lighting are other important elements of the memorial, a statement said. The PM's remarks came in the wake of widespread violent protests following a Supreme Court verdict that allegedly diluted the provisions of the Scheduled Caste ad Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 to prevent the misuse of the law.

He said this would send a clear message that the Prime Minister does not discriminate and his focus on "sabka saath, sabka vikas" is not a mere slogan.
