She took the slayings‚ so by her heart and her strikes we are healed. It will not be easy to forget her.

She was the ex-wife of the late Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president.

Not really in a good way.

In his keynote address at the memorial, Mabuza said Mama Winnie, as she was affectionately known, gave her life without expecting anything in return. It is poorer not merely because a great political colossus of this era has died, but because her death leaves a massive hole in the lives of her multitude of friends and on the ramparts of our nation. She had her ups and downs but was still a hero.

"We didn't understand at the time but we later understood she was referring to [Nelson] Mandela being sought by the police‚" Madikizela said.

Mohammed said: "Winnie was the daughter of Africa who embodied the proverb 'When you strike a woman, you strike a rock". And Winnie Mandela was the glue. She was personally targeted. She could have laid back ... but she never stopped fighting. "But Winnie Mandela refused to break".
