Renee Zellweger as Screen Icon Judy Garland in 'Judy'

According to Variety, the film follows Garland in 1968 after arriving in London to perform a series of sold out concerts.

The very first image of Academy Award victor Renee Zellweger playing show business icon, actress and music legend Judy Garland was released today and she definitely looks the part.

The cast for the film is filled out by Jessie Buckley (War and Peace), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story), and Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), and while a release date is not yet set, it's possible the film could be ready in time for the upcoming Oscar season, hitting theaters sometime towards the end of this year.

The film also delves into Garland's behind-the-scenes battles with management, her relationships with musicians and fans, and the unfolding family drama that provided the backdrop to the London performances.

The Oscar victor has made a remarkable transformation into the "Wizard of Oz" star for a biopic based on the late years of Garland's life. British stage director and Tony nominee Rupert Goold is directing Judy from a script by The Crown's Tom Edge. Even her dreams of romance seem undimmed as she embarks on a courtship with Mickey Deans, her soon to be fifth husband. After working for 45 of her 47 years, she is exhausted; haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood and gripped by a desire to be back home with her kids.

The Oscar victor is set to play the superstar singer and actress in the upcoming biopic "Judy".

Some of Garland's most well-known songs will be featured in the film, so you won't have to worry about whether or not you'll hear "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Will she have the strength to go on?
