'Tragic accident': Dog forced into overhead bin dies on United f

A family's French bulldog apparently suffocated during a flight from Houston to NY on Monday when a United Airlines flight attendant forced them to place the pet in an overhead compartment for the three-hour trip.

In Monday's episode, the pet owner discovered her dog was dead shortly after the plane landed at La Guardia Airport.

"We assume full responsibility for this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family and are committed to supporting them", the statement said. "They assured the safety of the family's pet so wearily, the mother agreed". At the end of the trip, the passenger discovered that their dog had died.

The passengers heard barking for part of the flight, The Points Guy reported.

According to a witness who tweeted about the incident, the passenger with the dog "adamantly refused" to store it overhead, but was pressed to by a flight attendant. "I held her baby as the mother attempted to resuscitate their 10 month old puppy", passenger June Lara wrote on Facebook. "Her daughter was also crying", she said.

'The flight attendants of flight UA1284 felt that the innocent animal was better off crammed inside the overhead container without air and water, ' he wrote on Facebook.

A spokesperson for United said the airline will investigate the dog's death "to prevent this from ever happening again".

According to the AP, 18 animals died on United flights past year, compared with six on all other USA carriers combined.

The airline's policy states that all animals traveling inside the cabin should be in a carrier and 'fit completely under the seat in front of the customer and remain there at all times'. Although nothing can replace the dog, it's good to know United is working to get to the bottom of the situation.

United Airlines confirmed the incident to BuzzFeed News, calling it "a tragic accident that should never have occurred." .
