New Orleans Saints RT Zach Strief announces retirement

Well, well, well. Just when it seemed like Kirk Cousins-to-the-Vikings was a foregone conclusion, another report comes out that has everyone suddenly pumping the breaks.

With the free agency period looming, this pushes more pressure upon the Saints to get a new deal worked out for Brees in the next couple of days.

The entire offseason Brees has reiterated he'll be playing for the Black and Gold in 2018.

This brings the Minnesota Vikings into the fold, arguably the most glamorous landing spot for a free-agent quarterback in the National Football League right now.

Prevailing belief is still that the Saints and Brees will agree to a deal before Wednesday.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune addressed the Brees' rumor Monday, writing "It's been assumed all along that Brees will re-sign with the Saints, but now that we've reached the legal tampering window without an extension announced, there at least exists the possibility that the 39-year-old could be on the move". Brees, on the other hand, is capable of elevating the players around him. And they're title contenders, having knocked off the Saints in the playoffs to make the NFC Championship Game. However a risky situation could be evolving if the Vikings make an offer that blows the Saints' stance out the water. He was named MVP when the Saints beat the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

The biggest name being thrown around by reporters and analysts is the Minnesota Vikings. But Brees is much, much more than a quality starting quarterback - he's an elite, future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

Brees has said repeatedly that he wants to stay with the Saints.

Brees could walk away from New Orleans and get paid more money and have just as good of a chance to win elsewhere. Now that Brees and the Saints are on the brink of the moment where other teams can formally try to bogart him, anything can happen.
