Iowa state senator Bill Dix caught kissing lobbyist in bar

Iowa Starting Line reports the video was provided by people who witnessed Dix's interactions with the lobbyist at the Waveland Tap bar on March 1st.

"With what little I know, I'm certainly disappointed in what I'm hearing", Reynolds told reporters".

Iowa Starting Line reported the unidentified woman in the video "has been registered and works as a lobbyist for various municipality groups at the Statehouse for the past two years".

"Iowans hold their elected officials to a high standard; they expect us to lead", said Reynolds. "I'm hoping to meet with leader Dix this afternoon and better understand what the facts are, but right now we just found out about it before we came in".

"I want to know the facts", Reynold said, according to the Des Moines Register.

Senate Democratic Leader Janet Petersen issued a statement raising the possibility that state policy had been affected by Dix's relationship with the lobbyist.

Sen. David Johnson, an Ocheyedan independent who left the Republican Party in 2016 over differences with now-GOP President Donald Trump, said he had not seen the video but noted he had heard similar reports about Dix prior to Monday's posting of the video.

"It's a disgrace to the majority party caucus".

"This footage would suggest to me that the sexual harassment training was not effective, at least not for Mr. Dix", Carlson said.

The incident led to Senator Dix coming under scrutiny for his role in firing Anderson hours after she reported a toxic work environment, with the lawmaker continuing to insist firing the staffer exclusively for job performance reasons. "We don't need this ongoing story about where Senate Republican leadership is on these issues dealing with women".

Senate Democrats had earlier released a statement calling it a "serious matter" and accused Dix of failing to take responsibility after a former Senate staffer filed a lawsuit claiming sexual misconduct in the workplace.

Earlier Monday, before Dix's resignation, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) told reporters that she was disappointed by the allegations and said she had planned to meet with him.

Bill Dix talks about the Senate Republicans' efforts to address sexual harassment in their caucus on November 14. The lawsuit went to trial last summer, and she was later awarded $1.75 million.

The GOP majority recently hired a human resources manager to address sexual harassment complaints.

This is a reelection year for Dix, who serves Iowa's 25th Senate district, which includes all of Hardin County, all of Grundy County and portions of Story and Butler Counties.
