FA Charges Manchester City's Pep Guardiola for 'Wearing a Political Message'

In Spain, the yellow ribbon is a symbol which is worn in support of Los Jordis - Jordi Sànchez i Picanyol and Jordi Cuixart, who were imprisoned for sedition in October.

Calcutta/London: The Football Association (FA) has charged Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for promoting a political message by wearing a ribbon in support of imprisoned and ousted pro-independence Catalan politicians.

The City manager was born in Santpedor in central Catalonia and was manager of Catalan club Barcelona before joining the Premier League side.

And the FA have opted to acknowledge Guardiola's ribbon as a breach of reguations and will take steps to punish the City coach.

But Guardiola has no intention of being bullied by the FA and is expected to wear the ribbon at Sunday's high-profile Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

FA bosses chose to charge him yesterday after he again wore it pitchside during City's shock FA Cup loss against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Monday night. Many things have happened, but it's all because we wanted to vote and wanted a legal referendum. For giving an opinion.

"Because, OK, they can suspend me for doing that, but the other people are in jail".

Despite the massive pay boost, Guardiola is still yet to get his hands on a trophy at City - and recently saw his quadruple hopes crushed by Wigan in the FA Cup.

Guardiola is said to have ignored two warnings about wearing the ribbon on the touchline during games, the first being in November.

Issue is wearing it pitchside, which they say is in breach of regulations.

At the time, Guardiola revealed he was happy to face a fine or suspension for the stunt - for the good cause.

Pep Guardiola hasn't only been in the news due to the FA.
