District Will Suspend Kids Who Leave Class to Protest Florida Shooting

"Please be advised that the Needville ISD will not allow a student demonstration during school hours for any type of protest or awareness!"

The Houston Chronicle reports a group on Twitter named Student Walkout Against Gun Violence said a walkout was planned for Wednesday and called on students to stand in solidarity with those in Parkland, Florida.

"Life is about choices, and every choice has a outcome whether it be positive or negative", Rhodes went on.

The statement came in a Facebook post made on the official school board page.

Students said they were told not to walk out of class and that there would be consequences for leaving the building, but they still felt it was important to do so. There is a "movement" attempting to stage walkouts/disruptions of the school through social media and/or other media outlets.

Students across the country are walking out, pushing for gun control.

Rhodes says the district is sensitive to school violence, but is focused on education and not political protests. "A disruption of the school will not be tolerated", Rhodes wrote. We will discipline no matter if it is one, fifty, or five hundred students involved.

Hundreds of high school and middle school students from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia staged walkouts and gathered in front of the White House on February 21, 2018, in support of gun control in the wake of the school shooting in Florida. "All will be suspended for 3 days and parent notes will not alleviate the discipline".

The Levy County School board said that they would expel students who participated in the National Student Walkout on Wednesday.

In a crowd of about 100 students, one by one they stepped into the center to share their fears and what they want to see change.

The protests lasted 17 minutes to remember the 17 victims of last week's Florida school shooting.
