Chicago bank executive investigated as part of Mueller's Russian Federation probe

Did former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort promise to get a Chicago banker a White House job in exchange for millions of dollars in home loans?

Gates and Manafort were indicted previous year on charges that they conspired to launder millions of dollars and directed a covert Washington lobbying campaign on behalf of pro-Russian Ukrainian interests.

Manafort left the Trump campaign after the millions he had earned working for a pro-Russian political party drew scrutiny.

According to filings by Mueller's office last week, Manafort is alleged to have acquired a mortgage for the house in Virginia "from The Federal Savings Bank through a series of false and fraudulent representations to The Federal Savings Bank".

CNBC has reached out to the Calk's bank for comment.

Mueller is probing Russia's interference in the 2016 United States presidential election, whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russian Federation and whether the Republican president has unlawfully sought to obstruct the investigation.

Last year, intelligence agencies found that Russian Federation had meddled in the election and that its goals eventually included aiding Mr Trump who won a surprise victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Manafort has been under house arrest since he was charged.

Prosecutors cited "substantial evidence" that Manafort secured a mortgage by submitting "doctored profit and loss statements" to the Federal Savings Bank.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has filed a new, sealed charging document in the money laundering case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his onetime business associate Rick Gates. He did not respond to WGN's requests for comment.

Earlier this week, Mueller's office announced a guilty plea against a London-based lawyer who worked with Manafort and Gates on a report that largely defended the conviction of a former Ukrainian prime minister, despite widespread criticism that it was politically motivated.

The charge arises from work that Mr Van der Zwaan, the son-in-law of one of Russia's richest men, did on a 2012 report about the trial of Ukraine's former prime minister while he was employed as a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

The three loans were questioned by other officials at the bank, sources told NBC News, and a source added that at least one bank employee is cooperating with the federal investigation.
