Democrats would possibly attempt to prolong shutdown: Mulvaney

White House budget director Mick Mulvaney is defending himself from charges of hypocrisy in his attacks on Democrats over the government shutdown, given his own role at the center of the last fiscal clash in 2013. They oppose the bill but they don't really oppose the parts of it", Mulvaney said on "CBS This Morning.

"The president makes the decisions on about immigration in the White House, period, end of story", he said.

"I think the folks who hold the cards here are Democrats who say they want to work across the aisle", Mulvaney said.

Democrats want the measure to include funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program and a solution on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Alexis Sanchez aims parting shot at former Arsenal players
On Monday, the Chilean star officially joined Manchester United in a swap deal for Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan . Jose Mourinho is confident his protracted pursuit of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is nearing a conclusion at long last.

"The president was upset, but the government was closed", said Mulvaney.

Before the briefing, Mulvaney told a group of White House reporters that the White House had told a bunch of administrative agencies to implement lapse plan, which means that they should prepare for a government shutdown. The Senate is expected to take a procedural vote at noon on Monday on a funding bill that would keep the government open for about three weeks.

The last government shutdown occurred in 2013 when Republican lawmakers unsuccessfully tried to defund the Affordable Care Act. The government will shut down if Congress does not pass a spending bill before midnight Friday, but Mulvaney said that is not much of a hard deadline because federal offices do not reopen until Monday. "This government can not open again until at least nine Democrats support the measure".

Trump, whose quest to build a wall on the USA and Mexico border was at the forefront of his campaign, rejected a bipartisan proposal last week and said he wanted to include any deal for dreamers in a larger package that accompanied funding for the wall and increased security along the border.
