ULA Atlas V Rocket Launch Ready To Liftoff Tonight From Cape Canaveral

The 75th Atlas 5 rocket rolled to its launch pad at Cape Canaveral on Wednesday, a day before it was scheduled to lift off with a U.S. Air Force satellite to provide warnings of missile launches that might threaten U.S. territories and allies.

Atlas V will launch another satellite for the United States Air Force Friday evening.

About 20 minutes before the rocket takes off, the ULA will start its webcast live stream which you can watch above.

Launch Notes: ULA also launched the first three SBIRS GEO missions.

New Zealand prime minister is pregnant, due in June
Ardern, 37, became New Zealand's youngest prime minister since 1856 when she formed a centre-left coalition in October. Let me just say that I love the way Ardern has approached announcing her baby news - like it's no big deal.

The SBIRS satellites fly in geostationary orbits, and are equipped with powerful scanning and staring infrared surveillance sensors that collect data for use by the USA military to detect missile launches, support ballistic missile defense and gather broader intelligence.

Built by Lockheed Martin, the new constellation of satellites will replace the Defense Support Program - a fleet that began tracking missile launches in the 1960s.

There are now eight Atlas V launches scheduled this year, including this mission.

- The launch of a ULA Atlas V, carrying the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) GEO Flight 4 mission for the U.S. Air Force, remains on track. The SBIRS program is created to act as a missile-warning system and provide technical intelligence.
