Three in Four Americans Favor Substantial Abortion Restrictions

According to the poll, 76-percent back significant restrictions, including making abortions available only during the first three months of pregnancy, or in the case of rape, incest, or the mother's life being endangered.

The poll, conducted by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, surveyed 1,267 adults in December and another 1,350 adults earlier this month.

Also Thursday, the Trump administration announced that it would support the rights of health care workers who object to abortion, birth control or sex-change operations based on their religious convictions.

The poll came out just two days before the largest annual pro-life event in America, the January 19 March for Life in Washington, D.C. The yearly march protests the 1973 Supreme Court ruling Roe vs. Wade that legalized abortion nationwide.

"A slim 51 percent majority of respondents describe their abortion position as "pro-choice, ' with 44 percent responding "pro-life, ' and four percent unsure", Benson divulged from the poll".

Statistics recently unleashed by the pro-life organization Knights of Columbus, which commissioned Marist pollsters to conduct the poll, divulge that an overwhelming majority of Americans (76 percent) believe that abortion should be either: 1) allowed only during the first trimester of pregnancy, 2) exclusively permitted under the extremely rare circumstances of rape, incest or to save the mother's life, or 3) banned altogether.
