Tech brands get creative with social media during CES 2018 blackout

The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas experienced one of the least expected occurrences in the tech convention's history-a power outage.

This technology trade show happens every January in Las Vegas.

Many exhibitors and convention attendees remained calm as they used lights attached to their cell phones to navigate their way out of the dark Central Hall and South Hall of the complex. Power was fully restored at 2:10 p.m., as was shared by the organizers of CES 2018.

CNET reports that power failed in parts of the Las Vegas Convention Center's South and Central Halls on the second day of exhibitions. This resulted in attendees getting led out of the affected areas until power could be restored.

"A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flas hover on one of the facility's transformers", according to a statement from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Alert level raised after volcano eruption
Ashfall has been reported at the west and southwest slopes and another eruption at 10:50 a.m. that lasted for five minutes. Another eruption occurred later around 11:43 a.m. - it lasted approximately 15 minutes based on seismic record.

Snow in forecast tonight, Sunday
The second round is expected during the evening hours Sunday resulting in an inch or less of snow once again (see map below). Trade winds will return and strengthen through the first half of next week, likely becoming quite strong by midweek.

UFC Fight Night 124 Weigh-In Results: Uriah Hall Drops Out of Card
He was also faced with the death of coach Robert Follis, and one day after that, the death of one of Hall's best friends. Hopefully Belfort will be able to find another fight soon, and end his awesome UFC career in style, like he deserves.

It is where tech companies unveil products many of us will use for decades, with 4,000 companies showing off everything from karaoke machines to the biggest TVs ever sold. Without power, most of the companies exhibiting their new technologies on the show were not able to do anything during the blackout.

"We have to pay thousands of dollars to have one booth at CES - even the smallest one", said a spokesman from a Korean company.

Officials said rainfall from a storm that hit the Valley on Tuesday, may have caused the outage.

Technology brands including Intel, IBM, ISPN and Texas Instruments were quick to jump onto the #CESblackout hashtag, with many taking a cheeky communications approach to the situation.
