Snow, freezing rain expected in Northland tonight into Thursday

The wind threat includes many who are also under winter storm warnings to the north.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon through 9 PM Friday for Madison, Limestone, Lauderdale, Jackson, Colbert, and Franklin counties in Alabama and for Lincoln County in Tennessee.

The watch is in effect for Richland, Ashland, Crawford, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Summit, Stark, Trumbull and Wayne counties. Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday evening into Saturday, snow will begin to accumulate.

According to the alert issued by the NWS;."A storm system traveling across northern Wisconsin will bring rain to the area tonight, which will change to snow Thursday as colder air returns to the region".

Freezing rain, sleet or snow could make the evening commute a messy one in parts of Alabama today. He said the ice tends to break off and create "ice-dams" in creeks that are already flowing higher due to melting snow and rainfall causing the water to rise up over the banks.
