Muskegon events to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s life, legacy

The history of the federal holiday honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. started with legislation in 1983.

After what would have been nine years, the annual "A Day On, Not a Day Off" event to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. has been canceled. "His strong, peaceful, and lifelong crusade against segregation and discrimination brought our Nation closer to the founding ideals set forth in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence".
