Major power outage at CES 2018, Consumer leaving the show

The largest consumer electronics show in the world has found itself in the dark.

The session -'Turning AI into New Ways of Doing Business' on 10th January will discuss how professionals are putting the technology to work to better serve customers through increased engagement and accelerated research and the future of AI, said a CES statement.

"Power has been fully restored".

The rare blackout follows rains that had shuttered some events at the show, whose location in the Nevada desert usually offers visitors a respite from snow and frigid temperatures elsewhere in the country. There are giant walls of OLED TVs, a virtual reality ride, and internet-connected smart fridges that still can't keep food from spoiling without electricity.

Robots have always been a mainstay on the CES show floor, but they're usually more of a novelty than a real product. The room was dimly lit thanks to emergency overhead lights and the glow of laptops running on battery power. There was power in the show lobby. Conference organizers said on Twitter that it was an "isolated power outage" they were working to resolve. Speakers for the ginormous event, which is operated by the Consumer Technology Association, include Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, Ford president and CEO Jim Hackett, and Baidu vice chairman Qi Lu.

Of course, some of us use more than one. Attendees gathered around magician Al James and used their flashlights to watch him do tricks.

Following the deadly mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in the city in October, CES organisers have also confirmed the introduction of new security measures around the event, with more stringent identification and bag check procedures set to be in place around show venues.

We've rounded up the highlights from the show, as well as the major trends we're expecting to see unveiled at CES 2018.
