Hawaii reacts to Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa's big win - FOX10 News

Days after watching Alabama Crimson Tide freshman Tua Tagovailoa lead his team to a national championship, new Nebraska football coach Scott Frost balked at the idea of praising Nick Saban for the mid-game change at quarterback.

Will both quarterbacks return to Alabama?

Two years ago, Saban was eyeing a $10-million-per-year deal and it reportedly would cost the Giants $26.9 million to buy out Saban's Alabama contract.

"Tired of people not appreciating the fact that if this man led us to the National Championship", Tagovailoa tweeted Thursday. With almost everyone wondering Pappanastos was up to a pressure-filled long kick, Alabama needed yards. After getting beat up in the first drive, Tua got comfortable. Jalen Hurts accounted for 351 yards of total offense while throwing for two touchdowns and running for one. The Hawaiian started for the Tide in the second half and orchestrated the comeback, including the game-winning TD in overtime.

Enter Tagovailoa, who prior to Monday completed 35-of-53 passes for 470 yards and three scores, by playing mop up time throughout the season. At times he still had the markings of a freshman: he threw an interception in the third quarter when all his receivers, expecting a run, were downfield blocking, and he nearly fouled up the last few seconds of regulation, forcing Saban to put Hurts back in to manage the clock.

The Tide remained determined and steadily began erasing the deficit.

Before the game-winner, Tagovailoa took a bad sack, losing 16 yards.

He took a sack for minus-16 yards on Alabama's first play in OT.

Comedian Tom Arnold, a friend of Giants co-owner Steve Tisch's, told ESPN in November 2016 that boxing promoter Bob Arum called the team while officials were negotiating to hire Ben McAdoo and said Saban wanted the job.

Now it was up to Fromm to try to swing the momentum back Georgia's way.

Tagovailoa went back to work with 2:55 left and the ball on the Alabama 35-yard line. Then a field goal, and another. As a result, they were able to claw their way back into striking distance and ended up sending the game into overtime - after missing a 36-yard field goal at the end of regulation.

The all-SEC matchup was all Georgia in the first half before Saban pulled Hurts and went with the five-star recruit from Hawaii.

Tagovailoa isn't the only impressive football player in the family.

The freshman receiver originally committed to Georgia but de-commited after Mark Richt left the program.

"Because they're the New York Giants", he said. "I think Tua's done that for him all year long".

"In overtime we didn't finish when we had to and Alabama did".

"Everybody would kind of look at me different, but the one person who stood out was Marcus", Tagovailoa told The Oregonian in 2014.
