Congress defends Siddaramaiah on attack against RSS

While Shah accused the CM and his ministers of pocketing money released by the Modi government at the Centre for developmental programmes over the last four -and- a- half years, Mr Siddaramaiah went several steps further calling the RSS, Bajrang Dal and BJP men "terrorists". He has clarified that he referred to them being religious extremists. "The BJP, RSS and Bajrang Dal also have terrorists within".

To this, Siddaramaiah had angrily retorted: "I have reared cows, grazed them and even cleaned the dung".

Citing a spate of killings of Hindu activists in the state, particularly in the coastal Dakshina Kannada district, the BJP has been demanding a ban on Islamist outfit PFI and its political wing Social Democratic Part of India (SDPI) holding them responsible for it.

After coming under an intense attack from the BJP for his remarks, Siddaramaiah had yesterday called those associated with the saffron party "Hindutva extremists".

BJP Karnataka, however, hit back at Siddaramaiah and blamed him for polarising the voters in the state ahead of the elections. "Those who create an atmosphere of fear among people are called terrorists, the chief minister's statement was in that direction", he added.

BJP has chose to hold a "Jail Bharo" protest in the state in protest of Siddaramaiah's statements.

Addressing the Nava Karnataka Nirmana Parivartana Yatre in Chitradurga, Shah said, "The Siddaramaiah Government is indulging in vote bank politics; it is an anti-Hindu government". It also followed the news of a college student in Chikkamagaluru committing suicide after a group of men harassed her for posting a picture that appeared to show her like a burkha-wearing Muslim.
