Nissan brain-to-vehicle technology will 'enhance' driving experience

The future of Nissan cars could involve interfacing with our brains, as the Japanese auto maker has revealed research it has been carrying out on brain-to-vehicle interactions.

Nissan is set to reveal its "brain-to-vehicle" or "B2V" auto feature that is envisioned to assist in manual and autonomous driving in the future.

Nissan will demonstrate the new technology using its IMx concept vehicle to simulate driving.

"When most people think about autonomous driving, they have a very impersonal vision of the future, where humans relinquish control to the machines", said the carmaker's executive vice president Daniele Schillaci.

Nissan calls this technology Brain-to-Vehicle, or B2V, and the claim is that the technology will speed up reaction times so vehicles can continually adapt to make driving more enjoyable than it is already.

This new technology is based on Predicting and Detecting.

Nissan said it will use a driving simulator to show several elements of the technology at CES.

NFL, NFLPA to examine Panthers' handling of Newton after hit
If the celebration videos and live streams in the locker room wasn't enough, wait until the build up for this week. You feel like there's a brotherhood that will always be there.

The idea behind this is that by anticipating things like braking, accelerating, or anticipating turns, Nissan could develop significantly advanced driver assistance (ADAS) features, or close the divide between semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles.

The automaker says that, by anticipating such movements, the auto can shave anything from 0.2 to 0.5 seconds off the usual, unassisted reaction time.

Do you like the sound of Nissan's brain-to-vehicle technology?

In the future, cars will not only be able to drive autonomously, they also may be able to read your mind.

Nissan, part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, has been among the most aggressive automakers in pursuing electric and autonomous cars. It could also use augmented reality to adjust what the driver sees through their windscreen. "This research will be a catalyst for more Nissan innovation inside our vehicles in the years to come".

Bizarrely, Nissan also claims its technology could extend to altering what passengers actually see when sat in the auto. But it shows how much scope there is for innovation in auto tech and interfaces especially when self-driving cars continue to be motor ahead in their development.

Nissan will be offering limited demonstrations of the tech at CES 2018, which kicks off this weekend.
