Apple faces questions from senator over iPhone slowdown

John Thune, has penned a letter to Apple with further questions about slowing older models of the iPhone via Apple's mobile operating system, iOS.

Since Dec. 20, when Apple admitted to slowing down iPhones, the company has been under a steady worldwide barrage of criticism. This questioning also comes alongside pressure from the French government's fraud watchdog, which has opened an investigation into claims of alleged deception and planned obsolescence.

Sen. Thune wants to know how Apple tracked customer complaints about performance issues and whether the company could offer rebates for those who paid full price for a replacement battery before Apple's apology and $29 battery offer.

Although technology analysts have mostly defended Apple's strategy as a way to make older iPhones last longer, some regulators and many consumers believe the company has been manipulating the way aging devices work to spur sales of its latest - and more expensive - models. The tech giant quickly apologized, stressing it would never "do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades".

Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro Receiving Android Nougat Update
We're really interested to see how much it will cost but expect around the £350 to £400 mark. Samsung is expected to place this below the camera module, and not next to the camera.

And the GOP lawmaker is pressing the company to explain how it settled on a $29 battery replacement for iPhone 6 or later - as opposed to offering it for free.

Amid the controversy surrounding deliberate iPhone slowdowns, Apple might have another problem to deal with - the explosion of the batteries in the phones. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components. And if you own an iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you should expect to be able to get your battery replaced "without extended delays".

Lawsuits have been filed in California, New York and IL alleging the company defrauded users by slowing down devices without warning.
