Louisiana teacher arrested at board meeting for questioning superintendent's pay

A school teacher was forcibly removed from the Vermilion Parish School Board meeting Monday evening after she repeatedly questioned the school board members as well as the superintendent, who is set to receive a $30,000 raise among other incentives. "I feel like it's a slap in the face for the teachers, the cafeteria workers or any other support staff we have".

Deyshia Hargrave didn't think the superintendent of her school district should receive a raise. Board's president Anthony Fontana said she was "out of order" after asking several questions outside of the question-and-answer portion of the meeting.

When she asked another question, the Abbeville city marshal on duty grabbed her and forced her out, as shown in the video. As the videographer catches up to Hargrave, she is seen outside of the venue in handcuffs.

The marshal handcuffed Hargrave and struggled briefly with her on the floor before removing her from the building.

According to the Associated Press, a teacher's union lawyer is now investigating and a School Board member says there are talks of a strike.

Board member Laura LeBeouf, who voted against the contract, said she was "very appalled" by the incident.

Requests for comment from Hargrave and Puyau were not immediately returned Tuesday afternoon.

According to Fox News, the teacher, Deyshia Hargrave, addressed the school board about salaries and raises.

Russell Simmons Puts A Halt On His #NotMe Campaign
Since then, Simmons has posted on Instagram with "inspirational" quotes. But that was the last we heard of his #NotMe campaign. And tomorrow the case of Jenny Lumet.

"Stop resisting!" the officer ordered as he pushed Hargrave toward the door. The only listed agenda item was for the board to approve Superintendent Jerome Puyau's contract.

"Are you kidding me?"

"I have a serious issue with a superintendent or any person of leadership getting any type of raise", said Hargrave.

Also responding was the ACLU of Louisiana which also released a statement on the Vermilion Parish teachers arrest.

Hargrave, a middle-school English teacher in Vermilion Parish, bonded out of the Abbeville jail on charges of "remaining after being forbidden" and resisting an officer Monday night.

KATC obtained the video showing her being recognized by the board, then calmly explain her concerns. She wasn't making a fuss, she was pointing out something he didn't want public, they used arrest tactics to remove her when she was already leaving and that's illegal'.

Before the meeting could get back on track, someone came in and told the attendees that Hargrave had been handcuffed outside the meeting.
